Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR)
When asphalt has failed down to the base, an overlay won't hold. Full-depth reclamation pulverizes the existing pavement and the base beneath it, blends in a stabilizing agent set by the mix design, and compacts it into a new, uniform base — recycled in place instead of hauled off.

Rebuild the base without hauling it away.
Full-depth reclamation (FDR) recycles a failed asphalt pavement in place. The old asphalt and the base beneath it are pulverized together, blended with a stabilizing agent, and compacted into a new, uniform base that is then surfaced. The existing material stays on site instead of going to a landfill, and new aggregate does not have to be trucked in.
FDR is used when asphalt on parking lots and roads has failed through the base — widespread cracking, rutting, and potholes that an overlay would only cover up. The agent, rate, and depth come from the engineer of record and the lab mix design.
How an FDR job runs.
- 01Review the pavement, plans, and the engineer's mix design
- 02Pulverize the existing asphalt and base to the specified depth
- 03Spread the stabilizing agent at the rate set by the mix design
- 04Mix the reclaimed material to a uniform blend
- 05Grade and compact the new base
- 06QC testing by the owner's testing agency, then pave
