Project summary
A new institutional building in south St. Louis City needed a full basement. Kuesel cleared the site, removed pavement, sidewalk and fence, excavated the basement, backfilled the exterior foundation, graded, and set subgrade to ±0.10'. Where existing utilities were close, crews used hydro excavation.
Utility work included about 420 LF of PVC, HDPE and RCP storm with 10 yard drains, four precast structures and an underground detention system, 57 LF of PVC sanitary with a sampling manhole and cleanouts, and a new 6" tapping sleeve and valve with detector check vault, 3" domestic service, 6" DIP fire riser and street repair, under MSD permits.

Challenge → approach
A basement dig on a city lot leaves little room around existing services. Kuesel exposed nearby utilities by hydro excavation, excavated and backfilled the basement, and fit an underground detention system and a full water, fire and sanitary package into the remaining site.
